Davis Creek Recreation Area Improvements Okayed

A bid of $740,805 from Frahm Construction  to add 42 new camp sites with electrical hook-ups at Davis Creek Recreation Area south of North Loup was given unanimous approval by the Lower Loup Natural Resources District Board of Directors at their meeting on May 26th.  The improvements will also include a shower house and vault toilets.

NRD General Manager Leon “Butch” Koehlmoos said that over half the cost of the expansion will be offset by $428,000 in federal funds from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.  He said the popularity of the recreation area led to the decision to expand the camping facilities.  He said that on holiday weekends, the facility has exceeded capacity, with campers utilizing areas not intended for that use.

The bid from Frahm was the lowest of four bids received on the project.  Koehlmoos said that work is expected to begin later this summer and should be complete by the fall.  He said a second expansion phase will then be considered.  That phase would include a second boat ramp, a fish cleaning station, an RV sanitary dump, and a new parking area.
